Churdhar Peak - |Location, Access & Altitude |

In The Series of Exploring the unexplored here's my article on Chander Nahan lake.

The magnificent Churdhar peak in Sirmaur is one of the highest peaks of Shivalik at an elevation of 11965 meters. Churdhar, better known as Churichandni (Snow Bangle), is blessed with some of the most beautiful scenery in the region. The view from the conference includes a large panorama of tracts below the southern and snow-covered plains, including the peaks of Badrinath and Kedarnath in the Garhwal region, in the north.

The wealth of herbs and beautiful alpine flowers cover the slopes of the Himalayas. Walking in the sanctuary of wildlife, one sees the magnificent deer, the bird of the H Himachal kingdom, and the koklass and Khaleej pheasants. Cannabis deer with canine teeth and a black Himalayan endangered species live in the highlands.

Pilgrims sing and dance at night during the Navratras exhibition at this ancient temple. Passengers tread small snowflakes on their way to the Churdhar windmill, with moderate and heavy snowfall (33 meters of snow). The temple of Srigul is usually buried beneath it. Viewing the rainbow from the horizon after a rainstorm is a spectacular sight. The brightly coloured rays spread over the cloud cover, making the sky look like a giant chandelier.

Churdhar Sanctuary is located in the Sirmaur and Shimla regions of India's state of Himachal Pradesh. The sanctuary area is 56.16 square kilometres as announced on November 15, 1985. The animals include the black Himalayan bear, Barking deer, Musk deer, Langur and Leopards. The administrative function in Churdhar is overseen by Chureshwar Sewa Samiti.

The sanctuary is named after Churdhar Peak. Churdhar (3,647 meters high; 11,965 meters) is the highest peak in the Sirmour region and the highest peak in the Himalayas outside. Elevation has great religious significance for the people of Sirmour, Shimla, Chaupal and Solan of H Himachal Pradesh and Dehradun of Uttrakhand. Churdhar is a sacred shrine associated with Shri Shirgul Maharaj (Chureshwar Maharaj), a deity worshipped in Sirmour and Chaupal. The main arrival routes are from Nohradhar, Sirmour 14 km and Sarahan, 8 km Chaupal.
